This idea is just in time for Earth Day. Not to mention its just a fun project. Look around in your fridge or cupboard at those items in a glass jars with a lid. Jelly, Spaghetti sauce, relish, olives, so many possibilities. We usually recycle glass, but this idea is even better. Why not go one step further & reuse that glass? Supplies: Recycled glass jars with lids any shape or size making tape Chalkboard Paint by Plaid Folk Art spray paint (not pictured) Start by taping off the section of the jar that you want to paint. Press tape down nice & firm so the paint won’t be able to leak inside Be creative with this step The jars don’t all have to match up or be the same
Now for the chalkboard paint!
This stuff is fun & easy to use. I really like the fact that it is non toxic.
Use a paint brush or sponge & apply one coat of paint on the inside of the area that you taped off on the jar.
It took me a few days.
Lets face it people I’m guilty of being easily distracted. 🙂
I think you could finish this in one day as long as it is completely dry in between coats.
Carefully tear off all tape from the jars (no picture sorry)
The next step is important.
I bought black spray paint for the lids.
Scuff the lids up with sand paper & apply a few light coats of spray paint.
Let them dry. I picked glossy paint for the lids. It looks good.
When its all said & done you have some really cute jars!
I am going to use some of mine to store craft stuff.
What are you going to keep in your new jars?
